Criminal Charges
VTLs and DWI Cases
The Vehicle Traffic Laws for New York State, abbreviated as VTLs, are legal codes that lay down the letter of the law governing DWIs and other traffic violations. Legal representation and defense strategies are devised to work within the parameters of these statutes.
DWI and Case Rulings
DWI attorneys also incorporate precedents set by actual DWI cases that have gone before judges. Case rulings form another very important and valuable source of legal guidelines on how to approach a DWI defense. The higher up the court that has delivered a ruling, the more powerful the influence the case has in setting a precedent for future DWI cases. In fact, the higher court’s decision is controlling for the lower court and is supposed to be followed. If the lower court does not follow the higher court’s decision, the case could be over-turned if appealed.
